I have to admit, I did not know much about broccoli salad until recently.

My sister-in-law asked me if I had a healthier broccoli salad recipe on my blog because all the recipes that she found online were full of sugar, bacon, cheese, and sour cream.

I did not have a broccoli salad recipe, but I knew there had to be a healthier way to make it.

So, I started recipe testing and came up with this amazing Lightened Up Broccoli Salad! I have made this 3 times in the last week!

Health benefits of this salad:

This version of broccoli salad is not only delicious, but nutritious.

Health benefits of raw broccoli:

For starters, the base is raw broccoli. Raw broccoli is a great source of fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It is also anti-inflammatory by nature.

1 cup of raw broccoli has 135% of your required daily value of vitamin C, 14 % of your required daily value of folate, 8% of your required daily value of potassium, and 9% of your required daily value of fiber.

There are 6 cups in this recipe so times all of that by 6!

Health benefits of raisins:

Raisins help with digestion.

They are also high in iron, potassium and magnesium.

And they are filled with antioxidants as well.

Health benefits of almonds and sunflower seeds:

Almonds are full of healthy fats, fiber, protein, magnesium and vitamin E. Due to their makeup, they are said to help lower blood sugar levels, reduce blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels.

Because of their fat content, they also help reduce hunger.

Sunflower seeds are a great source of vitamin E, which is great for your skin. They are also full of healthy fats as well.

How to make this salad:

Making this salad is really simple.

First, you chop the broccoli florets into small pieces. I even like to chop the florets themselves even further.

Next, you add the broccoli florets, raisins, sunflower seeds and sliced almonds to a large bowl.

Then, you make the creamy honey dijon mayo dressing! Mix the mayo, dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, honey, salt and pepper together until creamy and smooth.

Pour the dressing on top of the broccoli florets and mix until all the dressing is mixed in.

That’s it!

You can eat this broccoli salad as soon as it is mixed or put it in the fridge to eat it cold.

Dietary tips:

If you want to make this dish vegan, make sure the mayo is vegan and use maple syrup instead of honey.

If you want to make sure this dish is dairy-free and Paleo, make sure your mayo is compliant.
