Have you tried sunflower seed butter and chocolate together? WOW is the flavor combination amazing. I’m told that it tastes like a reese’s peanut butter cup, but I wouldn’t know because I am allergic to peanuts.

Ever since I did try sunflower seed butter and chocolate together, though, I have been eating it non-stop!

I love it so much that I decided to make this Sunflower Seed Butter and Chocolate Chip Banana Bread.

It’s a Paleo, Gluten-free, and Dairy-free banana bread filled with chocolate chips and sunflower seed butter swirls. It is also made with healthier for you ingredients like almond flour, tapioca flour, coconut sugar, and olive oil.

Sunflower Seed Butter, an allergy friendly alternative

Sunflower seed butter is considered an allergy friendly food because it is free of peanuts, tree nuts, soy, milk, eggs, wheat, fish, and crustacean shellfish. AKA the top 8 most common allergies. (Make sure the company you buy it from guarantees this)

As I mentioned, I am allergic to peanuts. VERY allergic.

I’m actually allergic to all nuts except for almonds, which is why you won’t see any recipes with other nuts here.

So I’ve never had any of those amazing looking peanut butter and chocolate candies.

I’ve never had peanut butter and chocolate anything.

So when I tried sunflower butter and loved it. And then when I tried it with chocolate and loved it even more, I knew I would be doing lots of baking with it.

Ingredients needed for this Sunflower Seed Butter and Chocolate Chip Banana Bread:

  • olive oil
  • coconut sugar
  • eggs
  • vanilla
  • bananas
  • almond flour
  • tapioca flour
  • coconut flour
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • cinnamon
  • sunflower seed butter

How to make this Sunflower Seed Butter and Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

To make this delicious banana bread, start by mixing the coconut sugar and the olive oil together in a bowl. It will be lumpy, but that is ok.

Then add the eggs, vanilla and mashed bananas to the sugar mixture and mix until smooth.

Then add all of the dry ingredients to another bowl (almond flour, tapioca flour, coconut flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon ). Mix all the dry ingredients together and then pour into the bowl of wet ingredients and mix.

Then fold in some dairy-free chocolate chips. My favorite is the Enjoy Life brand. I like using 1/2 mini chocolate chips and 1/2 mega chunks to get a good variation of melted chocolate in the bread.

After that, pour half of the banana bread batter into a greased tin pan, and add drizzles of sunflower seed butter on top.

Pour the rest of the banana bread batter on top and then drizzle more sunflower seed butter on top. I like taking a knife and making swirls out of the sunflower seed butter.

Then you bake it for 50-55 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Sunflower Seed Butter and Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (Paleo, GF)

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 in x 5 in loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix the olive oil and coconut sugar with a fork or whisk. Add the eggs, vanilla, and mashed bananas and whisk again until well mixed.
  • In another bowl, combine the almond flour, tapioca flour, coconut flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Mix with a fork until blended.
  • Pour the bowl of dry ingredients into the bowl of wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  • Pour 1/2 of the banana bread batter into the loaf pan. Drizzle with 2 Tbs sunflower seed butter. Then, add the other 1/2 of batter on top of that and drizzle with 2 Tbs sunflower seed butter. Use a knife to make swirls with the sunflower seed butter.
  • Bake for 50-55 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
