Chocolate cherry banana smoothie in a jar with chia seeds on top.

If you love the combination of chocolate and cherries, then you will love this cherry smoothie. It is made with a handful of ingredients, has a nice chocolate taste from the cocoa powder, and is filled with cherry flavor from the frozen cherries. It is naturally sweetened with banana and has extra omega 3’s from chia seeds.

This smoothie tastes like a frozen chocolate cherry dessert in a bowl but is actually healthy for you! I love having healthy smoothies like that for breakfast. If you do as well, check out my Cherry Mango Carrot Smoothie or Spirulina Smoothie with Banana.

Recipe ingredients

Ingredients needed to make a cherry cocoa smoothie.
  • Frozen banana– I usually take ripe bananas and peel them and individually freeze them for easy use in smoothies.
  • Frozen cherries– I like using dark sweet cherries, but feel free to use tart cherries if you prefer that.
  • Almond milk– make sure to use an unflavored almond milk with no sugar added.
  • Chia seeds– these add omega-3s and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Cocoa powder– make sure to use a good quality unsweetened cocoa powder.
