The health benefits of matcha green tea
I did a bit of research and found that matcha tea is chock-full of health benefits:
- it is full of antioxidants
- it boosts your metabolism
- it helps your body detox
- it relaxes the body and mind

- it helps lower cholesterol and blood sugar, and
- it is full of vitamins and minerals.

Recipe Ingredients
- matcha tea powder- ceremonial grade matcha powder or culinary grade matcha powder work best to make this recipe.

See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
Additions/ Substitutions
- Instead of almond milk, you can use a different non-dairy milk. You can use oat milk, cashew milk, flaxseed milk, etc.
- Instead of honey, you can use maple syrup or date syrup. Using maple syrup or date syrup makes this drink Vegan. You can also use brown sugar if you prefer.
- You can add other flavors to your iced latte, such as cinnamon, cocoa powder or crushed strawberries.
Step by step instructions
One way to make matcha tea is to follow a certain method that involves a whisk of sorts. But I find that shaking everything together in a mason jar works is easier. Below is the mason jar method.
Step 1: Scoop out the matcha tea powder
Step 2: Pour the matcha tea powder into a mason jar.
I love Jade Life or Pique life matcha tea ( use code “perchancetocook” to get 5% off your first order). The color of a good quality matcha tea powder is incredibly vibrant.
Step 3: Pour hot water into the mason jar, close the lid and shake it all together.
Step 4: Add honey to the jar, close the lid and shake again.
Step 5: Add the almond milk to the mason jar, put the lid back on and shake.
Step 6: Fill the mason jar with ice, put the lid on top and give it one last final shake until all the liquid feels cold.
Recipe FAQs
If you make this recipe for one person, there are 90 calories in the full mason jar of iced almond milk matcha latte.
It is! Matcha powder is full of antioxidants. Almond milk is a great source of vitamin E and calcium. Add them together and you have a healthy drink.
I like using almond milk but you can use any milk that you like.
Yes matcha tea is healthier than regular green tea. It is said to have 3x the amount of antioxidants than regular green tea.
Ceremonial grade matcha tea is seen as a higher quality type of matcha powder. It has a brighter green color and subtle sweeter taste. It is meant to be used in hot water and to be drunk traditionally.
Culinary grade matcha powder is meant to be used in baked goods, smoothies or lattes. It tends to be less bright green and a bit more bitter in taste.
I have used both to make this latte and find that both work well and the flavor isn’t that different.

I have tried dozens of matcha lattes like this one , but this recipe tops all the other one. It was very easy to make and doesn’t require a lot of work , not to mention it tastes AMAZING. Will definitely be making this again.
I am so happy to hear it!!
I made your recipe and I loved it. My first time with Matcha was not pleasant. I put too much powder. It was very strong. This drink was perfect and I even cut the recipe for one.
I’m so glad! And I agree, it’s hard to get a good balance when you first start with matcha 🙂
My energy is threw the roof …i love it hope it boosts my metabolism like my energy.
Matcha does give the best energy boost!
If made in advance, will this stay in the fridge without the matcha separating?
It will separate, but if it is in a mason jar, you can quickly mix it again!
I have tried matcha many ways and this is the best! I did use canned coconut milk and almond extract in place of almond milk because I didn’t have any. Even my husband thought it was great!
Very happy to hear it!! It’s my favorite way to drink matcha 🙂
I have been loving matcha lately but I have been struggling with different ways to make it. I made this today and I am IN LOVE. This will definitely be my new go-to drink, thank you for posting!

We have very hot weather in Sydney, 40 degrees at the moment and I was Googling for a matcha latte with almond milk recipe and found your creation. Brilliant, can’t wait to share this with my friends 🙂
So happy to hear that! This is one of my favorite drinks; I have it almost daily! And I can totally relate to the heat coming from Florida… this make hot drinks almost not possible! haha
Hi there! Do you have any idea what the calories are for this latte? It looks delicious!
I would say about 165 calories if you are drinking the whole thing by yourself. It depends on your brand of almond milk because some have more calories than others. 🙂
This looks and sounds delicious! I’m all for iced beverages that taste great plus give you an energy boost, so this sounds like a fantastic way to mix up my iced coffee routine.
Thanks! I love it 🙂
Nice, will for sure try, I am new to using matcha so looking for ways to use it.
It’s great in baking and lattes. <3
