Why have I never added hot sauce to my chili before?! It’s so delightfully good! And this Paleo Ground Turkey Hot Sauce Chili?? You have got to try it!

The ground turkey in this recipe is seasoned with paprika, chili powder, and Paleo hot sauce. There’s also a bunch of veggies inside…diced carrots, yellow bell peppers, sweet potatoes and zucchini… all of which absorb the chili flavor in the best way, adding an extra oomph of satisfaction to the whole dish.

I’ve already made this recipe twice and it has quickly been gobbled up.

Even though the pot was filled to the brim with this Paleo Ground Turkey Hot Sauce Chili and I thought we’d be able to eat it for a few days, it always disappears the day that I make it!

Everyone went back for seconds or thirds… and I can’t blame them πŸ™‚

There’s a nice heat and satisfying flavor to this recipe (though not too hot/spicy), and it’s just filled with veggies, which adds a nice texture to the chili.

The ground turkey makes the dish lighter than if you were to use ground beef, but in a really good way. Ground turkey tends to absorb spices and tomato sauce in a way that gives so much flavor to every bite.

Make sure to use 90-93% lean ground turkey and not 99% lean ground turkey for the best results.

There’s definitely a time and a place for 99% lean ground turkey but the place is not with this recipe.

Also, make sure to add some toppings to this chili! I love adding fresh red bell pepper, lime juice, and avocado on top.

Adding red bell pepper brings a nice fresh crunch to the chili. The lime juice pairs with it so well also. Oh and the avocado adds a creaminess and seems to have been made for chili.

Oh and you really need plantain chips. You can use them to dunk into the chili or crumble them up on top (which I like to do. :))

This Paleo Ground Turkey Hot Sauce Chili, topped with avocado, red bell peppers, lime juice and plantain chips is seriously the most satisfying of Paleo meals. And it’s Whole30 compliant which is amazing because you need yourself some “I don’t even know I’m following a diet” type meals when you are doing a Whole30.

Feel free to add in more or different types of veggies here.

For non-Paleo and Whole30 peeps, adding black and kidney beans tastes great here as well. I’ve eaten it both ways and it’s great. πŸ™‚

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbs olive oil
  • ΒΎ cup minced white onion , (1 small white onion)
  • 2 Tbs minced garlic , (4-5 cloves of garlic)
  • 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper/red pepper flakes
  • 1 yellow bell pepper , diced
  • 2 large carrots sliced and quartered
  • 2 pounds ground turkey ( 90-93% fat)
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt , divided
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp chili powder , divided
  • ΒΌ cup paleo hot sauce
  • 3 Tbs tomato paste
  • 3 cups strained tomatoes (Pomi is my favorite non-processed brand)
  • 2 cups chopped tomatoes (Pomi brand is my favorite non-processed brand)
  • 1 large sweet potato diced
  • 2 small zucchini , chopped

Instructions

  • Put the diced onion, garlic, red pepper flakes, and 1 Tbs olive oil into a large pot, over medium-high heat. Mix to coat everything in the oil and cook for 3 minutes, mixing every so often. Add the diced pepper and carrots, mix, and cook for another 3 minutes.
  • Then, add the ground turkey to the pot and top with 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp paprika, and 1/4 cup paleo hot sauce. Break up the meat into smaller pieces using a spatula and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Add tomato paste to the meat and mix.
  • Next, add the strained tomatoes, chopped tomatoes, 1 tsp of chili powder, and 1/2 tsp salt to the pot. Mix and then lower the heat to low-medium, the chili should still be bubbling.
  • Add the diced sweet potato, and cook 15 mins. Add the sliced zucchini to the pot, mix and cook for another 10 minutes, until you can easily stab the sweet potatoes with knife.
