Grapefruit Guacamole is a delicious twist to traditional chunky guacamole where grapefruit is added to avocados, onion, garlic, cilantro, lime juice and tomatoes. It makes for a great refreshing grapefruit appetizer!
This unique guacamole recipe is a favorite of mine to make when I have ripe avocados and juicy grapefruit on hand. It’s got all the great flavor of traditional guacamole but with added grapefruit flavor. Which adds a tart sweetness that I LOVE.

Recipe ingredients
- avocado
- grapefruit
- red onion
- garlic
- cilantro
- salt
- lime juice
- cayenne pepper
- tomatoes
Step by step instructions:
Step 1: You need to get all the grapefruit meat out of the grapefruit. It is easiest to do that by sectioning it out.
How to section a grapefruit: I find it easiest to cut the grapefruit in half, then in half again, and to just gently remove the fruit from the membranes surrounding it and placing it into a bowl. If you need help on how to section grapefruit, check this tutorial out.
Step 2: Add all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix.
Expert tips
- Use fresh cilantro!
- Use pink grapefruit, it is sweeter than other grapefruit. Start by adding in less grapefruit to the recipe, test the recipe then add more to taste.
- Make sure your avocado is ripe. This makes the guacamole creamier.
- Mix the guacamole until you reach the desired texture. I like having some chunks so I leave it chunky.
How to serve:
There are SO many options here.
You could serve the guacamole in a large bowl with lots of options to dip into it. Options like:
- potato chips
- tortilla chips
- plantain chips
- carrots
- red peppers
- sliced apples
I also love adding this guacamole to chili, tacos, enchiladas, or my eggs in the morning. Lastly, I love eating this guacamole along side drinking a glass of my famous Cointreau margarita recipe.
