Tomato Bacon Jam has quickly become my newest favorite condiment. It’s sweet yet it’s savory. It’s got a great tomato base, but it also has a hint of smokey bacon.

It’s super easy to make and can be used on top of SO many different types of foods and dishes. Seriously, try this Paleo Tomato Bacon Jam on top of eggs and you will thank me. 🙂

Just thinking about this Paleo Tomato Bacon Jam has me salivating.

You know, it wasn’t until recently that I delved into the world of savory jams. I used to think that jams were only meant to be fruit based, but I was wrong!

The first time that I tried tomato bacon jam, I was a bit hesitant. My husband and I went to a restaurant in St. Augustine and the waitress highly recommended their hard boiled egg appetizer that was topped with a tomato bacon jam.

We ordered the dish and then we were both blown away with how delicious the flavor combination was. It was like tomato and bacon were meant to be made into a jam together!

Then not long after that, I had breakfast at a local spot near me and I saw poached eggs topped with tomato bacon jam on the menu. I ordered it and again LOVED how amazing this jam tasted!

So I decided to make my own Paleo version.

I tested out several different recipes and landed on this Paleo Tomato Bacon Jam recipe. It is made of bacon, tomatoes, onion, coconut sugar, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper. And I’m pretty much in love with it. 🙂

In the unsuccessful recipe attempts, I tried using different types of tomatoes (cherry) and maple syrup, and also cooking it at a higher temperature. But none of that worked.

This Paleo Tomato Bacon Jam recipe was the best.

I adapted it from this All Recipes Tomato Bacon Jam recipe.

I cooked the bacon in the microwave in between two paper towels ( to soak up the fat ). I really like doing this so that the bacon is crisp and crumbles easily.

Then I put the tomatoes and onions into a food processor and put them into a saucepan along with the bacon, coconut sugar, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper and let it all cook for 30 minutes.

This Paleo Tomato Bacon Jam is basically like a jam meets a chutney meets a healthy version of ketchup. It’s hard to explain but it works so well on top of SO many different things.

My obvious favorite is to eat this Paleo Tomato Bacon Jam on top of eggs. It works with any style of eggs and it really kicks up your dish to a whole other level.

I also personally really like it on top of chicken or beef.

I mean, can you go wrong with a healthy tomato based condiment that also tastes like bacon? NO.

I actually used this Paleo Tomato Bacon Jam to create another recipe. Stay tuned for it this or next week (depends on how my 2 month old decides to sleep 🙂 )!

Tomato Bacon Jam (Paleo, GF)

A healthy tomato based condiment that is basically a jam meets a chutney meets a healthy version of ketchup. It also tastes like bacon and is paleo, grain-free, gluten-free, dairy-free and clean.

Ingredients 

  • 5 slices bacon
  • 1 pound tomatoes on the vine
  • 1/4 yellow onion
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 Tbs apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions 

  • Cook the bacon in microwave. Put the bacon on a microwave safe plate, sandwiched between paper towels and cook for 3 minutes. Then cook for another 2 minutes, until the bacon is crispy. Once the bacon has cooled, crumble it up.
  • Put the onion and tomatoes into a food processor and mix. Then pour the mixture into a saucepan, add the coconut sugar, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper, and mix.
  • Heat the tomato mixture over medium heat, and stir in the crumbled bacon. Cook for 30 mins, mixing every so often, until the jam is thick.

    1. I haven’t tried it with canned tomatoes, but I don’t see why not. I’m curious if the proportions would be different. Let me know if you try it!
