If you love the combination of chocolate and cherries, then you will love this cherry smoothie. It is made with a handful of ingredients, has a nice chocolate taste from the cocoa powder, and is filled with cherry flavor from the frozen cherries. It is naturally sweetened with banana and has extra omega 3’s from chia seeds.

This smoothie tastes like a frozen chocolate cherry dessert in a bowl but is actually healthy for you! I love having healthy smoothies like that for breakfast. If you do as well, check out my Cherry Mango Carrot Smoothie or Spirulina Smoothie with Banana.

Why this recipe works

  • It is made with only 5 ingredients.
  • It takes 5 minutes to put together.
  • It is filled with vitamins, minerals, omega-3s, and antioxidants. Cherries are full of vitamin C.
  • It is naturally dairy-free, gluten-free, grain-free, and peanut-free.
  • It is kid friendly. My toddlers ate it up quickly.

Recipe ingredients

Ingredients needed to make a cherry cocoa smoothie.
  • Frozen banana– I usually take ripe bananas and peel them and individually freeze them for easy use in smoothies.
  • Frozen cherries– I like using dark sweet cherries, but feel free to use tart cherries if you prefer that.
  • Almond milk– make sure to use an unflavored almond milk with no sugar added.
  • Chia seeds– these add omega-3s and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Cocoa powder– make sure to use a good quality unsweetened cocoa powder. I love using this cocoa powder to make chocolate pudding.

  1. Oh wow, I’m so sorry to hear about your illness! I just got over bronchitis (I get it every six months, give or take) and it lingers forever, but I can’t imagine having to deal with that all the time. I wish you a speedy recovery! And what a yummy smoothie recipe – can’t wait to give it a try.5 stars

    1. Thanks so much Amy! It is quite annoying, but I feel like it’s slowly getting better now that I haven’t worked out for a few weeks. Fingers crossed I can jump back into working out like normal once the pain goes away!
